"The original name of this location was Brayton, so named for John Brayton Martin, who kept the Brayton Commercial Company which was the store for the Harqua Hala Mine. Local residents changed the name of Brayton to Bouse.

There is some question whether the place was named for Thomas Bouse, a trader and storekeeper, or for George Bouse, a miner and truck gardener. Possibly, it was named for both men. According to a news story in 1909, George Bouse of the Bouse Townsite, Land and Improvement Company purchased 1,600 acres of land for cultivation."

P.O. Est. as Brayton, May 14, 1906, Name Changed to Bouse, November 27, 1907.
